A delightful Jaguar E-Type coupe is set to put a smile on someone’s face at auction after being left to gather dust in a Scottish barn for 35 years.
One of just 1,179 right hand drive E-Type cars built, it was supplied to Mr J G Clark in the year of its manufacture, 1962.
Jaguar E-Type ‘original in every way’
Described as a “delightful sleeping beauty”, this classic car is original in every way, including the 3.8-litre Jaguar XK engine.
As the vendor explains: “The car was purchased by a friend, an avid car collector in the late seventies or very early eighties.
“It was run for a while and then parked in a barn and forgotten about.
“It still sports it’s original headlights and everything under the bonnet is complete and correct.”
Launched at the 1961 Geneva Motor Show the Jaguar E-Type was nothing short of a revelation.
Performance, style and relative affordability
With its supercar performance, breathtaking styling and relatively low price, it left rivals reeling and customers clamouring.
The E-Type reputation was enhanced by racing success at the hands of Graham Hill and Roy Salvadori, among others.
Built as a monocoque with a front subframe to cradle the engine, the combination of all-round independent suspension, rack and pinion steering and four-wheel disc brakes gave it excellent roadholding and handling capabilities. The E-type could sprint from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds and topped at 150mph.
Jaguar E-Type: ‘achingly beautiful, viciously quick’
According to sale notes it is “achingly beautiful yet viciously quick”, for many “the E-type remains the ultimate production Jaguar”.
This dusty specimen, with only 66,551 on the clock, would be “the perfect restoration project”, at a bargain price. (You could get a car insurance quote at a bargain price too while the restoration is in progress.) The presale estimate is £30,000 to £40,000 and there is no reserve.
It is being offered with a Jaguar heritage certificate and the V5C registration document.
The car is being sold at auction by H&H Classics at Buxton in Derbyshire on Wednesday, July 18.
Barn find Jaguar E-Type will excite car lovers
Roger Nowell from H&H said: “The joy of this job is that now and then you stumble across a car that you know is going to excite other car lovers as much as it excites you.
“This E-type is such an iconic symbol of its time and our motoring history. It was utterly revolutionary in its day and had a massive influence on the automotive industry.”
