The Ladybird Book of Motor Cars

A good friend of mine (Thanks Spen) thoughtfully purchased this little beauty for me at Christmas.
Not only is it the perfect gift for a collector of auto-ephemera and self-confessed car spotter like myself – it stirred some really deep lying memories. And the conclusion I have come to is that this book was one of the first bits of print that began a lifelong itch.
What goes around, comes around.
There’s something about the thoughtful, meticulous rendering of cars like the Austin A40 and the Maserati Mistral – something about the straightforward, unpretentious writing, and something too about the beautifully elegant title page (the one with the hand-drawn Rover kicking up dust Sweeney-style – that is so beautifully appealing.
Who needs digital renders? Keep it analogue, baby.
