Looking for cheap driving lessons? Students can get them for free

Looking for cheap driving lessons? Driving lessons are to be offered to college students in an innovative attendance incentive scheme.

Students aged 17 and over who enrol at Darlington College in September will be automatically enrolled on Driving Ambition – a scheme which aims to help learner drivers pass their test and improve attendance at lessons.

Better than cheap driving lessons – 6 for free

Students will get the opportunity to claim up to six free driving lessons as part of the scheme. The free driving lessons will be funded by the reinvestment of a portion of the college’s commercial funds.

A Darlington College spokesperson said: “The college feels passionate about driving employability and equipping students with skills for their future careers beyond the classroom.

“Darlington College have their learners at the heart of everything that they do and will be re-investing commercial funds, generated through third party lettings to support the initiative.”

Students will be eligible for their first three free driving lessons if their attendance is 90 per cent or above for the academic year up until Christmas 2018.

They can claim a further three lessons if they have maintained the same, or similar, level of attendance by Easter 2019.

If they hit their attendance target, and hold a provisional licence, they will be able to claim their free driving lessons.

Students aged 16 will be entitled to apply for the lessons when they turn 17, with sessions only available with Darlington College approved driving instructors.

Free driving lessons scheme among first in country

It is thought the free driving lesson incentive scheme is one of the only schemes of its kind in the country – and it’s certainly better than cheap driving lessons!

Driving instructors have welcomed the initiative. One said: “Driving lessons are educational. They are proven to develop many skills that are important for adult and working life such as patience, communication, decision making, dealing with pressure and an ability to multitask.

“Driving Licenses are often required for jobs. Many jobs now list a driving licence as essential or desirable regardless of whether driving is actually an obvious requirement of the job. Having a driving licence greatly increases employability.”
